Bill and I posted a full review of the Alien Bee Ringflash at Studiolighting.net as a compliment to our recent interview with Paul Buff on the LightSource Podcast.

What do I think of it? You’ll have to read the article to find out… but here are a few samples to whet your apetite.

You are the first photographer I have seen where you are in the photos like 75% of the time, why is that? Is there really a lack of good photo subjects in the world?

What do mean when you say the abr 800 is fully integrated? Is it that I will not require a separate power source like the ab vagabond 300 to power it outside the studio?

I’m trying to find where you are commenting on the fully integrated? I”m not sure where you areferring to that.

You would need a powersource to run this unit outside of the studio, whether that is a Vagabong or a wall outlet. With Ringflashes, many of them require a PowerPack system that contains the flash capacitors (not to be confused with flux capacitors… lol) like a Hensel, or ProFoto, or BronColor Ringflash. These units require a floor pack to power their ringflahes at all times.

The ABR integrates all the capacitors and such into the light itself… so it requires only a plug into an outlet of somekind.

    Sorry for the confusion there.

And Jim… I’m the easiest one available when I want to test some scenario out. I’m not really that vain! ;-)
