I’ve talked about Presenting your work on the LightSource Podcast (available at StudioLighting.net). Ok, I’ll admit it, I’m a geek. And I’m ok with that. So, It’s probably no surprise that I love software. Now, finding the ideal software that fits my workflow is the “fun” part.

I’ve been a HUGE fan of the Adobe Bridge/Photoshop combination. Dr.Brown’s Image Processor (not simply called Image Processor) was my “ace in the hole” for getting stuff online. It’s still a fabulous tool, but I’m wanting something more.

I tried Lightroom, but I’m not sold on it. I’m not sure that it handles all the aspects of what I do. I feel like it’s a great tool for a portrait photographer or event photographer, but I’m not sure it’s the best option for a stock photographer.

I’d been a loyal fan of iView Media and was an affiliate of iView for a number of years. Now I’m not so wild about the developments of this software now that it’s under the Microsoft Label. I’ve grappled with frequent crashes while doing simple tasks. So, I continue to feel like I’m in a sort of limbo.

I tried using ACDSee Pro 2.0 (which I use as my browser… and it’s fantastic for that). I’m a little disappointed in it’s ability to do offline cataloging though. I tried to import photos from my external disk (cause my laptop has little HD space) and figured I’d just work on Keywords in the DB portion of the application and found I couldn’t do it. What a huge limitation for a cataloging application to require the images to be available to manage them.

Well, I guess for the time being, I will continue to use Microsoft Expression Media and give an update as things change.

As part of my “playing catch-up” on my blogging, I was interviewed by my co-istocker (and good friend) Ethan Myerson on his blog. Ethan has a great series going over there called 6 questions. As I know he is incredibly busy… I hope he can find the time to get some new blood on there. Because, if he doesn’t I’m gonna intercept and run with the ball. (that would be totally touching floor.)

Ethan is a talented photographer in his own right and well worth taking a visit to see his work as well. He also knows his way around some of the more geeky technologies of the web. The kind of technologies he knows like the back of his hand leave me sitting in my chair starring at a blinking cursor muttering to myself trying to figure out the logic behind something not being equal to nothing.

Early in my “artistic life”, I was going to be a comic book illustrator. That never happened but I was a technical illustrator and I always had a soft spot for illustration work. So we have decided to convince each other to get off our butts and just shoot something already. We talked about a central site, or a flickr group or something to keep stuff localized. But the more we thought about it, it seemed best to use the power of our blogs to link these together.

What do you do?

Each 15th and End of the month will be the deadline for the SUAS topic assignment. Before the deadline is up, you should have shot and completed your assignment and posted it on your own blog and set a trackback to the SUAS main site.

Be sure to include the following as a caption for your image (in text, don’t put it in the image itself)

[ SUAS ] Concept: Tell a story, subject of image is an item commonly found in the bedroom. Deadline: Jan,31 2008
Photographer: YOUR NAME
Title: PHOTO TITLE
